Everyone faces this every once in a while. Loss of motivation, apathy, depression - what to do if you don't want to do anything? I've identified 10 things that motivate me. I would love to share them with you.
1. Dreams
In the 8th grade, I became the school's President. I dreamt about it. I’ve made an initiative to create this "position", organized the elections and headed it. The so-called elections were held among all students in the school. Since there was no such example in the school, it was impossible to influence any processes. Back then, it was a kind of club that consisted of high school leaders.
I was and still am a maximalist from school. Setbacks and difficult circumstances try to sober me up, but the thought of a great dream gives me the strength to move on. The dreams turn into problems that I solve or change my attitude towards them.
2. Heroes
In different periods of my life, I was inspired by different heroes and outstanding personalities. During my school years, I read all of Akunin's detective stories and was struck by Erast Petrovich Fandorin. At the dawn of the Ribas Hotels Group, I was inspired by Isadore Sharp, the founder of the Four Seasons hotel chain.
My father has always been and remains a hero to me. The bright memory of him encourages you to go to your goals tirelessly and achieve them every day, so that you can proudly bear his name.
3. Victories
Even small victories help you get motivated. I recommend that you set small goals in parallel with big goals, such as those that can be achieved in a month, week, or even today.
Getting up at five in the morning for "morning glory" is a small victory, but also motivation for the whole day. This is how I started my 29th birthday. Write a blogpost, close a task that "hangs" for a few more weeks, finish reading a book, help those in need — what's not a victory?
4. Music
I'm a fan of rock music. Its energy every morning helps me tune in to running things that are waiting for me.
Usually, this is a selection of guitar music, punk and indie rock, Russian and Ukrainian rock. From the last one I listened to Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Kasabian, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse. I also turn on the Ribas.fm radio at work.
5. Love
This is my main weapon. It fills me with power when I give it away. Friends, family, the only one. I am also one of those who believe that great men are made by great women. Cherche La femme.
6. Environment
Man is a herd animal. I'm one of those people who values friendship. Almost all my friends appeared in my life during my school and college years. And I feel a real synergy in communicating with them. They know how to listen, ask for advice and support. I enjoy and am inspired by the feeling of true friendship.
The new environment I acquire every day is the other side. I am actively involved in business communities and social initiatives. I am one of the co-founders of the 4City social project. There are similar projects in Frankivsk and Kiev - Urban100 and Urban500. I am a member of the Board of the ABK Business club, an active member of the Union of Ukrainian entrepreneurs (SUP) and number of other organizations.
The main goal of this position is to absorb the best from the environment and charge yourself with energy. Over the past few years, I have met hundreds of incredible people, many of whom have become examples for me.
By the way, at the last meeting of the Odessa business club, we exchanged business cards with infrastructure Minister Vladimir Yemelyan, and last week I interviewed Dmitry Derkach, co-owner of the Planeta Kino cinema chain, for the Lichka project.
7. Family
I have a large family: three brothers, mother, grandmother, aunts and uncles. Everyone is very different and lives in different parts of Ukraine. I don't see or communicate with them as often as I would like. But definitely, when my heart is empty, talking to my mother, grandmother or seeing my brothers is a balm.
I also look with admiration at families that carry love, respect, and moral values through the decades. Great examples are Harutyunyan families (Odrex Medical house) and Koren (Ruta hotel chain). These families are strong and friendly in three generations. And despite all the temptations of the modern world, they cherish family values.
Appreciate and cherish your loved ones.
8. Travel
The best thing money can buy is the ability to travel. I have visited more than 20 countries around the world.
To absorb the culture of different countries, to observe how people live with a different mentality, worldview and upbringing, to be surprised by the wonders of nature in a childlike way, to breathe their air and enjoy food — all this is very motivating and inspiring for new victories.
After one trip like that, we opened one of the best in Ukraine (according to the international Hospitality Awards jury) hostels — Friday. It was a trip to Vienna. A city where people are happy and do their job perfectly. If you have a extra $ 1000 - spend it on travels.
9. Charity
Giving is always better than receiving. At least for me. I've noticed that I get a lot more pleasure when I give gifts and help friends than when I get them. Charity is completely different emotions and feelings.
The very realization that you can save someone's life with a little effort is incredibly inspiring. On our 29th birthdays, Andrey Marenchuk and I collected more than 100 000 UAH. The platform of the "Tablets" Foundation, which helps children with cancer, helped us raise money. This money saved more than one life. Help those in need — you will get much more back.
10. Yourself
Sometimes, you lose faith and there is no energy for anything. But the inner self, love for yourself and for your life help you even in the most difficult times to rethink, gather strength and move on.
When I lost my idol father at the age of 25, it seemed for a while that life would never be the same again. And it turned out to be true. I have raised my spirits and am going to my goals even faster.
