The building of the Ribas Duke hotel was constructed in 1905 according to the design of architect L. M. Chernigov for property owner Bekel. The facade is executed in Art Nouveau style. Above the window openings on the third floor, along the central axis of the building, is an impressive sculpted bas-relief. The building is recognized as a cultural heritage site.
Tchaikovsky Lane, where the hotel is located, was previously called Theatrical Lane — and for good reason. This cozy lane once housed the Theater for Young Audiences (building No. 12), and even earlier, a variety theater. Today, at Tchaikovsky Lane 1, stands the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater.
During their stays in Odessa, this legendary lane was home to prominent figures such as educator K. D. Ushinsky, composer M. Lysenko, writers Y. K. Olesha and A. P. Chekhov, and of course, Pyotr Tchaikovsky himself.
